Elsham Golf Club is stepping up its efforts to widely communicate the health benefits of golf (both physical and mortal) for all ages and abilities, building on significant robust research and key findings by the World Golf Foundation.
Did you know?
In a 9-hole round, a player will walk two to three miles, take over 5,000 steps and burn over 450 calories.
If you can manage 18 holes the health benefits are increased further.
The evidence from 5,000 studies on golf and health, was presented in the world-leading British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2016 and found that playing golf can increase life expectancy, reduce the risk of major diseases and improve mental health.
40% Reduction in Mortality Rates
One paper, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports found 40 per cent reduction in mortality rates among 300,000 members of the Swedish Golf Federation, corresponding to an increase in life expectancy of about five years.
