Today's Golfer

Elsham golf course has been in tip top condition this week for the three day Ladies County Championship which brought 64 ladies from around the county to Elsham this week. Although the ladies enjoyed perfect weather conditions, the greens were slow and the course was playing long. The standard scratch for the Butlin medal round was a very high 76. On the first day the ladies played 36 holes of golf off gross to find the best 16. Sophie Beardsley from Greatham Valley managed the best shot of the day, when her second shot to the par 4 eighteenth went into the hole for an eagle. The ladies with the best score then went on to play a knockout competition against each other - a further two rounds each day to find the champion.

The finalists were youngsters, Holly Clyburn (15) from Woodhall Spa and Emillee Taylor (18) from Gainsborough and the eventual winner was the big hitting Holly. A special mention should go to 15 year old Kirtsy Condon from Blankney who scored a hole in one on the ninth in the first knock out round, leaving her opponent's drive to within six foot of the pin wanting. Kirsty went on to win that match, but narrowly lost in the second round. The losing semi finalists were Sophie Beardsley and Michelle Willerton from Waltham Windmill. The Barbara Watson Trophy for the best gross 36 holes went to Emilee Taylor with a gross 152 and Michelle Willerton was runner up. Emilee Taylor also won the Mary Roberts' Trophy for the best under 30's gross score over 36 holes. The Preseident's Bowl for the best nett score over 36 holes went to Michelle Willerton with a nett 139. The runner up was Rachel Woodcock from Balnkney who only missed out on a count back. Michelle Willerton had the best nett morning round and the best nett afternoon round.

The Butlin Trophy for the best 18 holes nett score was Andrea Smaggersdale from Kenwick Park, beating her fellow Kenwick player, Sandra Crow, into second place. Ros Smith from Lincoln was third and Jean List from Holme Hall finished fourth. The winners of the Foursomes medal competition with the best gross score were Anna Clark (Belton Park) and Jenny Kennedy (Holme Hall) with a gross 80. Pat West and Paula Brown finished second. Lincoln pair, Katie Payne and Rachel Barton won the best nett competition beating local pair Sue Booth and Janet Godfrey into second place on a count back.
