Juniors & Child Welfare
Elsham Golf Club has recently renewed its GolfMark Accreditation, which recognises the Golf Club as having robust Junior Safe Guarding standards. The Accreditation is an England Golf standard and assures that child friendly systems are in place and provides parents with confidence that the safety of children are of utmost importance to the club.
The Club’s Golf Professional, David McNicholas and Assistant, Dane Duffin, Junior Welfare Officers and Junior Volunteers are all DBS checked and have attended relevant Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshops where appropriate.
Local Authorities and Schools are encouraged to direct pupils to GolfMark clubs. Every GolfMark club is recognised by Sport England as a ClubMark facility, and as such has reached the national standard as a quality sports club.
Competitions for Juniors
Elsham has an active Junior section and runs a Junior team in the North Lincolnshire league and holds regular monthly junior competitions. The Club’s Juniors have achieved noteable success at county level in 2017. Juniors are also able to enter the regular mens and ladies competitions once they have obtained a handicap
From Beginners to Experienced Golfers
All standards of Junior players are most welcome with Junior handicaps going up to 54. Regular group and private golfing tuition is provided by the PGA qualified professional David McNicholas and his assistant Dane Duffin.
Junior coaching is provided on Saturday mornings by our assistant professional who also goes in to local schools to introduce the game of golf and also provide coaching in schools, and runs sessions for local cubs and scouts.
Tri Golf is aimed at Primary school children and for the last 3 years a Tri Golf Festival has been held at Elsham. The Festival is used as a qualifier for the level 3 games which are held around the time of the Open Championship. The Festival has involved 10 schools from across North Lincolnshire with usually 10 children in each team and the top 2 teams qualifying for the final. The successful teams in 2017 were Luddington and Garthorpe and Holme Valley.
It is fair to say that golf is not an easy game, it requires perseverance, hand eye coordination, a degree of discipline and good manners. Excellent grounding for youngsters.
